How Does Paintless Dent Repair Work?
To put it simply, Paintless Dent Repair is the process of sculpting the metal back into it’s original shape. As no two dents are alike, a professional PDR craftsman will have various ways of “working” the metal to achieve a proper end result. So if you ever have a dent, please refrain from trying to “pop” it out yourself. You can damage it further , create kinks and possibly cause the area to not repair as well. The technician will know how to ease the metal back to it’s original shape the proper way.
The first step to the repair is finding good access to the backside of the dent. Often door dents can be accessed through the top of a window slot or other existing entry points. In some case small holes are drilled to gain access and then later are coated and plugged with factory style plugs. For hail repairs the interior headliner may require dropping down to gain access. Fenders may be accessed through wheel wells and headlights, while quarter panels are often accessed through the trunk or tail lights.
Some Paintless Dent Repair Tool Examples
Special tools are then used to gently and meticulously sculpt the metal back into it’s original shape pinpoint by pinpoint. The quality of the paint these days and the flexibility of the metal allow a repair that does not require any painting. If it requires painting then it was not a successful repair.
