Paintless Dent Repair History
The history of where or how Paintless Dent Repair originated varies, but there seems to be a widely held belief.
It is believed that Mercedes Benz was one of the first users of these techniques as early as the 1940’s. The technique was developed to save on the cost and time of having to repaint vehicles that accidentally were subjected to small dings or dents on the assembly lines. These pioneer technicians were referred to as “ding men” who would work the dents out with specific tools.
Paintless Dent Repair enters the 80’s
The 1980’s saw PDR technology expand into the Midwest regions of the USA. At that period of PDR history was still quite limited to the types of dents that could be successfully repaired.
It was not until the 1990’s that technicians in PDR began to push the envelope of PDR techniques to new levels never before achieved. Larger repairs became more common and hail damage repair became more perfected. The advent of an ever expanding variety of advanced tools and techniques being the main contributors to this success.
